Caring for Flowers

tips for longer-lasting, more vibrant flowers

For BOUQUETS AND POSIES

– Fill the vase with clean water containing flower food (follow instructions on the flower food packaging to make the solution);

– Take off leaves that will sit below the waterline. Recut the stems about 2-3 cm at an angle with sharp scissors, then place the flowers straight away to the vase;

– Keep flowers in a cool spot away from direct sunlight, heating or cooling vents, directly under ceiling fans, or on top of televisions or radiators.

For BOX AND VASE ARRANGEMENTS

– Check the arrangement daily to ensure the oasis is moist. If the oasis becomes dry it is less likely to take up water again, so be sure to keep an eye on it regularly;

– When topping up the water or remoistening the floral foam, add flower food to water (follow instructions on the flower food packaging to make the solution);

– Keep flowers in a cool spot away from direct sunlight, heating or cooling vents, directly under ceiling fans, or on top of televisions or radiators.

Pollen Prevention

It’s recommended to keep an eye on Lilies and remove their pollen as soon as they become visible. This is to prevent the staining of articles of clothing and furniture. Remove the pollen with a tissue so your fingers are not stained.

Should your clothing become stained, the easiest way to remove the pollen is to dab the area with adhesive tape, gently lifting off the grains. Rubbing it with a cloth only makes it become more embedded in the fabric.

Flower Preservative

Flower preservative (or flower food) is used to keep the water clean and kills bacteria which can contaminate water, attacking the cut ends of the stem. It also provides food to the bloom ensuring its maturity. Flower preservative can help prolong the life of some flowers.

However not all flowers like preservative. If you are to use flower preservative please ensure to follow the manufacturers instructions precisely.
